THE OPPORTUNITY

Reducing Use, Improving Effectiveness, and Replacing Steroids

Steroids are the first line of treatment for many chronic inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases, including Autoimmune Hepatitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, IBD, and Psoriasis, which affect millions of people around the world.

Phase II trial in GVHD:

STERO’s business concept and development plan are based on promising data showing that the use of STERO’s solutions in Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD) allowed for reduced use of steroid treatments, diminished their side effects, and in some cases could enhance the effectiveness or eventually replace steroid treatment in over 130 autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

REDUCING

Reducing Steroids Need
CBD is well tolerated and safe with minimal to no side effects, even when administered in high doses.
Reducing the need for steroids reduces the side effects associated with steroid therapy.

IMPROVING

Improved Results
Our CBD solution could possibly improve the therapeutic effect of steroids.
Surprisingly, patients refractory to steroid treatment also presented significant improvement with the CBD Treatment.

REPLACING

New Approaches
STERO’s solution could eventually replace steroids as the first line of treatment in many inflammatory conditions.
In all the patients previously treated with steroid doses administered with CBD, the side effects of steroids were shown to gradually decrease over time.

STEROIDS TREATMENT SIDE EFFECTS:

Although Steroids are widely used in patient care, they carry the risk of serious side effects, such as:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Weight Gain
  • Increased chance of Infections
  • Increase in Blood Pressure
  • Skin Problems such as poor healing after injuries
  • High Blood Sugar (which can trigger temporary and long-term Diabetes)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Thinning skin and easy bruising
  • Mood swings and behavioral changes
  • Increased risk of developing cataracts
  • Increased risk of duodenal ulcers and stomach ulcers

Long-term Side effect:
Side effects are more likely to occur when administered chronically such as in autoimmune disease, where they are given for years in order to control immune responses.
The higher the dose and time of administration, the greater the risk of side effects.
